Finding The Right Setting For Your Loose Gem

Friday, January 26th, 2007

There are many different occasions for which you might want to consider setting a gem stone into a piece of jewelry. Often times, people will take a gem that was once set in an antique engagement ring or other family heirloom and set it into a necklace, bracelet, or other ring. This is most commonly done when the semi precious gem stone is being passed down from one generation to another, or when a gem stone has fallen out of one piece of jewelry, and you want to preserve it.

Many people also use loose gems to create a beautiful piece of jewelry that is uniquely their own. Bracelets are a particularly good example of this. You can choose the loose gem you wish to include in your bracelet, and can use several different types. Many people often choose their own birthstones or those of their children. Once you have filled up the bracelet with the loose gems that are to your liking, you have a creation that is your own, a design that is unique to your personality.

There are several groups and types of gems. Some are precious gem stones, while others are semi precious gem stones. Others, however, like the cubic zirconia, are simulants of the real thing. All are widely sold.

Another popular setting for loose stones is in an engagement ring. Often times, couples are unsure about what they want, or are wishing to choose a more economic way to buy the ring, while still staying true to the “real thing”. Sometimes, a woman may choose to have a loose gem stone that was passed down from a grandmother or mother set into the ring of her choice, thus making it both authentic and meaningful. Since becoming engaged is, perhaps, the happiest moment of her life, it will be accentuated by a family memento that is both special and important.

There are many establishments that specialize in selling loose gem stones and semi precious gem stones, so your choices are numerous. The Internet can be a good place to get started, as there you will find information on each stone, and can view its photo. You can also consult your local jeweler, who will provide you with pricing details, and can help you when making your selection. If you know a lot about gem stones, you can purchase them on the net at www.diamondhybrid.us.

Have It Your Way With Loose Gemstones

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

Gemstones are wonderful to look at. There color is what attracts potential buyers looking for something eye-catching or breathtaking. Among the most recognizable gemstones are the ruby, opal, sapphire, amethyst, and topaz.

When buying loose gemstones, a buyer usually picks the color related to his or her birth. These precious little gems are most often affectionately called birthstones. The wonderful thing about buying loose gemstones is the ability to pick the setting they will call home. If you cannot decide between a bracelet and a pair of earrings, try putting your loose gemstones in both settings to help make your decision a little easier. If a watch is what you’re looking for, then do the same.

Loose gemstones give you freedom. If you don’t like the way it looks you are not obligated to keep it there. It may be hard to tell the authenticity of a real gemstone just from looking at it, so seek the help of a legitimate expert. When doing so, it is preferable to choose one who has little to gain by telling you a lie or is very reputable in this market. You can identify the real thing by being aware of the characteristics of a fake. Fakes trying to mimic real precious gems will not have the same color quality as the real thing. They will also be made of glass or some other material that a jeweler can spot fairly easily.

You may notice that mounted gemstones look great but may not have your personal style or flare. If the setting doesn’t speak to you try shopping around before mounting them to the first thing that suits your fancy. When setting your loose gemstones, stay away from mixing too many colors. For example, if you have a collection of sapphires, rubies, and opals that are yellow, green, and orange, don’t mix the colors together on the same broach.

This not only takes away from the individual beauty, but also is very distracting. It is easier to appreciate the beauty of an individual gemstone rather than having them all piled together in an attempt at making them even more breathtaking. If you are considering putting numerous gemstones in one setting, it is best to blend colors that compliment one another nicely. Usually light blues and pinks go well together as do reds and greens. Colored gemstones look more appealing in necklaces and bracelets as opposed to rings. The bigger the gemstone in a ring setting, the more “fake” it appears. Mix and match your loose gemstones until you’re satisfied, because, after all, you can have it your way.
