Acceptable SEO Techniques: Put on your White Hat Part 2
In the first part of this article, we talked about subtle SEO techniques that users couldn’t interact with. In this part, you can learn about actually using other people to help increase your search engine rank.
SEO Link Building
Link building is an important factor in SEO because it adds to the popularity factor of your site. Link building for SEO consists of techniques like exchanging links with similar sites of topic, directory submissions, resource pages, and partner pages. Using these linking building strategies properly will help the rank of your page for the reason stated above; popularity.
For example, if you have a website that is for an SEO company and there are 4000 other web pages on the internet linking to that website, then it seems like a popular site to search engines and will be ranked higher. Now, if most of those links are from other SEO websites, it should further increase the ranking.
One thing to remember with SEO link building is that the quality of the sites linking to you affects your rank so it is a good idea for SEO to link only to sites that are related to you, and to avoid ones which appear disreputable
Social media for SEO is a little bit more about link building but also a way to get others to promote your website. When your website has a social media aspect, like an internal forum or a Twitter account, you open the website up to building relationships with visitors. Another SEO benefit to a social outlet is that these types of sites, like Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, and MySpace, have great page ranks which are very helpful for your SEO campaign.
As an example for relationship building and promotion, say you have a Twitter account and every day you post little 200-300 word articles about a product you sell with a link to your site at the bottom. Eventually you will get followers interested in these products who will retweet the articles, sharing them throughout the internet.
As an example for page rank, if you have an account on Twitter for your company and it has a page rank of 6, much higher than your website, which is ranked 3. Now say someone searches the name of your company in a search engine. Chances are your Twitter account will show up higher then your actual site. This is good because your Twitter account will still lead visitors to your site.
Content is king. No matter how much SEO work you do, whether white hat SEO or black hat SEO, the content of your website is the largest factor in good search engine rankings. This is because the content of a site is what people visit for. SEO meta tags, SEO link building, and SEO 'alt' attribute are helpful, but if in the end a visitor reaches a webpage that has little information or value then it will not be ranked as relevant. One way to add content to your site that can increase your page rank is using SEO articles which are informative text pieces that have an SEO keyword density of 4-6%. This means for a 500 word article, to be relevant for the term SEO, SEO would have to be repeated at least 20 times. The biggest thing to remember with this SEO technique is not to overdo it because in the end the article must be worth reading.
